Valentine’s Road Trip

February 25, 2009 at 11:36 pm (Everyday)

For Valentine’s Day, David and I decided to take a little road trip.  We both took off work on Friday and left that morning to head for Greenwood, Arkansas where we played golf.  It was a beautiful day for it!  Here is a picture of us on the golf course.

That night we stayed in Ft. Smith…that was an interesting experience.  We looked all over for a cheap hotel but didn’t want something THAT dingy.  Well, we ended up staying at Relax Inn for $48.  It was nasty!  I told David we should’ve taken our own sheets.  The TV was probably a 19″, the bathtub was disgusting, and when you flushed the toilet it made the most horrid noise ever.  But we had a blast and made the best out of it.  The next morning we got up and drove to Mena then on to the Talimena Scenic Drive, going through a lot of small towns along the way.  We had so much fun and the drive was incredible.  We had an amazing time just driving through the mountains, seeing God’s creation, and talking.  Here are a few pics from our drive.

We also drove to Robber’s Cave and climbed on that for a while.  That was really interesting.

Thanks for an amazing Valentine’s David.  I love you!

Circumcision? Ack!

February 23, 2009 at 7:12 pm (Everyday)

Last Tuesday night I got a text from one of my mid-high switch girls.  Here’s how the converstation went:

Her:  Hey in the Bible when God tells someone they must be circumcized, what does that mean?

Me:  The actual act of circumcision  is when they cut extra skin (I think called foreskin) off a guy’s penis.  Now a days they do it within the first few days after a baby boy is born.

Her:  So when God tells Abraham that he and any boy born in his house must be circumcized, that’s what He’s talking about?

Me:  Yes.  It was a symbolic act back then.

Her:  Oh okay. 🙂  Thank you.  I would have asked my dad but I thought that was what it meant and penis is the last word I want to hear out of my dad’s mouth.  Thanks.

Me:  Ha I completely understand.

Man- talk about nervous.  I SO did not want to have to use the p-word with her.  I was very happy that she asked because she had been  in the Word though.  Never a dull moment with my Switch girls…

Give Me Your Eyes

February 23, 2009 at 5:32 pm (Inspiration)

There’s a song I’ve been hearing on the radio lately and hadn’t really thought about it much until last weekend.  And since then it’s really been on my mind.  It’s called Give Me Your Eyes by Brandon Heath.  Here are the words:

Give Me Your Eyes- Brandon Heath

Look down from a broken sky
Traced out by the city lights
My world from a mile high
Best seat in the house tonight
Touch down on the cold black top
Hold on for the sudden stop
Breathe in the familiar shock
Of confusion and chaos
All those people going somewhere
Why have I never cared

Give me your eyes for just one second
Give me your eyes so I can see
Everything that I keep missing
Give me your love for humanity
Give me your arms for the broken-hearted
The ones that are far beyond my reach
Give me your heart for the ones forgotten
Give me your eyes so I can see

Step out on a busy street
See a girl and our eyes meet
Does her best to smile at me
To hide what’s underneath
There’s a man just to her right
Black suit and a bright red tie
Too ashamed to tell his wife
He’s out of work, he’s buying time
All those people going somewhere
Why have I never cared

I’ve been here a million times
A couple of million eyes
Just move and pass me by
I swear I never thought that I was wrong
Well, I want a second glance
So give me a second chance
To see the way You’ve seen the people all along

What a good prayer!  Lord, give me eyes like Yours.  Help me to love others like You do.  Help me to be compassionate like You.  Mmm…great song!

Gotta Love the Self Timer

February 4, 2009 at 6:12 pm (Everyday)

Monday I took off work to baby-sit Jackson and Hailee and we had so much fun!  I showed Hailee what the self timer on my camera did and she was hooked.  We ended up taking a bunch of pictures around the house.
