The Proposal!

July 27, 2009 at 4:22 pm (Everyday)

I officially got proposed to this weekend!!  And it was awesome!  This weekend at the South Oklahoma City campus we held a garage sale to raise money to build wells in Africa to provide clean drinking water.  People from the church donated anything and everything.  It was crazy!  We went Friday night to help set up for it and were to be back at the church Saturday morning at 6:30.  We got there and got into a huddle to talk about how the garage sale would work and to divide up into groups.  After we divided up, our pastor, Trevor, called everyone back together to pray before we kicked everything off.  Trevor said, “David” and I thought he was going to ask David to pray.  Then he said, “Do you have something you want to say?”  David said he would like to thank everyone for being there with us that day and I immediately began shaking.  I was so nervous!  He then reached in his pocket, got down on one knee, and asked me to marry him.  It took EVERYTHING I had to keep my composure.  Of course I said yes! It was so cool because alot of our friends got to be there.   Here are a few pictures:

At the Movies Week 1- The Bucket List

July 13, 2009 at 7:11 pm (Inspiration)

This weekend we kicked off our biggest series of the year at church called At the Movies.  This week’s movie was The Bucket List.

Here is a quick synopsis of the movie:  Jack Nicholson and Morgan Freeman star as two terminally ill cancer patients who decide to break out of the hospital and live their last days to the fullest.  Edward Cole (Nicholson) is a corporate billionaire who is currently sharing a hospital room with blue-collar mechanic Carter Chambers (Freeman). Though initially the pair seems to have nothing in common, conversation gradually reveals that both men have a long list of goals they wish to accomplish before they kick the bucket, and an unrealized desire to discover what kind of men they really are. But one can’t accomplish such lofty objectives from the confines of a hospital bed, so now, in order to live their lives to the absolute fullest, Edward and Carter will have to make a break for it. With a checklist that includes playing the poker tables in Monte Carlo, consuming copious amounts of caviar, racing the fastest machines on four wheels, and much more, these two terminally ill men will do their best to fit a lifetime of experience into their last remaining days while forging an unlikely, but truly remarkable, friendship. – Jason Buchanan, All Movie Guide.

There were several scriptures that were used to go along with this message.  My favorite was Psalm 39:4-5 “LORD, remind me how brief my time on earth will be. Remind me that my days are numbered, and that my life is fleeing away.  My life is no longer than the width of my hand. An entire lifetime is just a moment to you; human existence is but a breath.”

How true is that verse!  Life is so stinkin’ short…and what am I doing about it.  Am I using this short time on earth to live life to its fullest?  Am I using this short time on earth to further His kindgom?  I sat down this weekend and made my own ‘bucket list’.

  1. Go sailing.
  2. Go deep sea fishing.
  3. See the Grand Canyon.
  4. Go on a mission trip to Africa.
  5. Go on a mission trip to Central America.
  6. Become debt free so I can give freely- so I can serve to my fullest capacity.

What about you?  What would be on your ‘bucket list’?

Quick Poll: Toilet Seats

July 13, 2009 at 2:57 pm (Everyday)

Just doing a quick poll: does it matter if the toilet seat is left up or put down? Which do you prefer?

My answer- I cannot stand when the toilet seat is left up.  It’s like leaving cabinet doors open.  It just looks so much neater when the seat is down (and cabinets are closed).

I Wonder…

June 22, 2009 at 2:29 pm (Everyday)

…if flies can think. Last night when David and I left our lifegroup in Tuttle we thought a mosquito got in the car with us. This morning I was pulling out of my driveway and saw that it was a fly. I rolled my windows down trying to get him to either fly out or to shew him out…but neither happened. So he road to work with me. At one point he landed on the window so I quickly rolled the window down and he flew out. It reminded me of Madagascar where the animals leave the zoo in the US and end up in Africa. I wondered if the fly thought he had traveled the country since we picked him up in Tuttle, America…that’s a long ways for such a small creature.

Leader Float Trip 2009

June 12, 2009 at 8:50 pm (Everyday)

Last weekend was our annual leader float trip.  This is something we all look forward to throughout the year.  This year was a little different.  Instead of camping out in tents for one night we got to stay in a cabin…and for 2 nights!  It was so much nicer.  This year they incorporated our leader retreat where we talk about what’s going on in our ministry and where we want to go,  etc.

I have 2 HUGE passions when it comes to Switch.  The first is Switchgroups.  This is where we really get to know the students and can disciple them.  The second is missions.  I’ve had the opportunity to do a few missions with my Switch girls and love seeing their passion grow for it as well.  This float trip gave us the opportunity to split up into groups and talk about the things we like and the areas we need to improve on.  I thought it was very good and very helpful.  It really made me want to step up and be a better leader…to the students and to the other leaders.  I want them to feel they can come to me when they have feedback or need prayer or just need someone to talk to.

The last night we had THE most amazing praise & worship time.  It was candlelit.  A couple of our leaders played the guitar and a couple sang.  God was definitely in that place!  During the worship we took the Lord’s supper.  It was just incredible.

We have got the most awesome Switch leaders.  They all have such a strong passion for our students- getting to know them, building them up, and discipling.  I am so thankful to be serving alongside each of them.

Here are a few pictures from the weekend:

Doing the Sexy Walk

June 4, 2009 at 8:45 pm (Everyday)

A couple of weeks ago at Switch we were talking about the types of music we listen to and how they affect us. The girls were going around the circle talking about it affects their mood, what they wear, etc.  One of my girls said when she puts her iPod in her ears and listens to music it makes her want to do the Sexy Walk.  I had never heard of that so I asked her to demonstrate.  It was HILARIOUS!!  We all got such a kick out of it.

Yesterday I get a text from one of my Switch girls who is in California right now.  Here was our conversation:

My Switch Girl:  LOL I just did mi sexy walk thts wat i get wen i’m walking and listening to mi ipod

Me:  Girl you are cracking me up!!  Sure gonna miss you tonight!

My Switch Girl:  LOL you gota tell every one wen you get there i had mi sexy walk moment and tht i miss them

Me:  Definitely will!

My Switch Girl:  Okay love ya 🙂 MuAh

This short conversation MADE me day.  I love the fact that we’ve got these inside jokes that we can laugh about.  I love that something that goes on outside of Switch can make her think of our Switch group…it just really meant a lot to me…{tear}.

Memorial Weekend 2009

May 26, 2009 at 7:10 pm (Everyday)

Man this weekend flew by! But I had such a great time. Friday after work David and I went and played a round of golf at Silverhorn Golf Course.  It was the perfect day!

David has a friend that plays at different places around the city and was playing Friday night at Nonna’s.  So after we played golf we went down there and listend to him play.

Saturday we went downtown to watch the OU Sooners play in the Big 12 Tournament against the Missouri Tigers.  It made me realized JUST how much I love baseball.  However, in all my years of watching baseball, I have never EVER had a fly ball hit to me…or HIT me.  Yes, it hit me.  We were sitting on the 1st base line and a foul ball was hit right at us.  David stood up in front of me to try to protect me but it hit my seat and hit me in the calf.  It hurt so bad but man it was exciting.

After the game we decided to walk around downtown for a while.  We headed to a parking garage and got up on the top level.  As we were taking pictures we could see a storm coming in.  In a matter of minutes it was pouring and hailing.  We were quite a ways from our car so we had fun trying to get back to our car and stay dry.

Sunday we served at LifeChurch.  Afterwards we went out to Roman Nose State Park with David’s family.  We did some hiking around and played in the springs there.  The water was ICE cold!

After Roman Nose we went to David’s brother’s house and ate and did some fishing with the kids.  I caught 4 fish but they were all perch.

Monday we went and played golf at River Bend Golf Course in Chickasha.  We played 27 holes.  It was beautiful out there!
